About the Position: This is a Research Physiologist position for the Commanding General within the U.S. Army Center for Initial Military Training (USACIMT), Research and Analysis Directorate with duty location in Fort Eustis, Virginia.
This is a developmental position this position may be filled at the GS-13 or GS-14 grade level as the discretion of the hiring manager.
Duties
As a Research Physiologist, you will perform the following duties which is not an all-inclusive list:
Communicate and inform Army leaders at the 4-star level concerning research outcomes and best practices to ensure a strategic understanding of the nuance and application of human performance optimization research.
Apply appropriate statistical and analytic procedures to achieve empirical solutions to optimize Soldier physical performance.
The incumbent will provide subject matter expertise to develop, direct, implement, coordinate and oversee empirical research designed to optimize Soldier and unit physical readiness and reduce injuries and attrition.
Initiate programmatic changes to the U.S. Army physical readiness training and assessment doctrine and independently make changes to the Armyβs program of instruction to reflect best practices in physical fitness training and health promotion.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance throughout the duration of employment.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of up to 25% of the time.
- Work schedules will vary according to installation training cycles. Flexible work hours are required.
- This position requires a pre-placement medical and annual medical surveillance exam in accordance with Occupational Health requirements.

Basic Requirement for Research Physiologist
Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in one of the basic animal sciences or physiology; or a related discipline or field of science that included at least 24 semester hours in the basic animal sciences, of which 10 semester hours were in animal physiology. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

GS-13 - Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to a GS-12 grade level in the Federal service which includes experience in planning, developing, and conducting basic and applied research pertaining to the area of Human Performance, specifically Biomechanics, Performance Nutrition, and Physiology; identification and quantification of factors controlling and affecting human performance, with emphasis on understanding the bio-mechanical, neuromechanical, neuromuscular, nutritional and physiological impacts as it pertains to Soldier task/mission performance and the interaction with personal equipment.
GS-14 - Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to a GS-13 grade level in the Federal Service which includes: 1) Conducting new, original research of significant scope and responsibility at a national level covering active duty and reserve troops; 2) Prepare comprehensive reports for altering product design and systems pertaining to physical fitness 3) Investigate physiological mechanisms between soldier fitness and peak performance; AND 4) Coordinate plans, proposals, resources, and equipment to improve physical readiness of the military force.
