About the Position: Serve as an Airfield Operations Specialist with the U.S. Army Installation Management Command (IMCOM), Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobility & Security (DPTMS), Airfield Division at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.
Duties
Provide detailed assistance to pilots in planning route of flight, preparation of flight plans/flight computations, and obtaining a clearance to fly in controlled airspace.
Process flight plans to include conducting necessary research and/or queries in the coordination of scheduled flights.
Maintain flight plan information for all aircraft movement, consisting of inbound, outbound, and local flights.
Analyze existing and forecasting weather conditions that could damage aircraft or threaten operations and/or airfield infrastructure.
Assist in the research and evaluation of airfield data, specific to airfield facilities, construction plans for the airfield, and changes/modifications to airfield construction projects and/or priority adjustments.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Flight-line Driver’s License per AR 95-2.
- Mission essential required to report for duty during inclement weather, natural disasters and other emergency situations as directed by the Senior Leadership. May be required to remain on duty after the official shift ends. i.e. mandatory overtime.
- This position requires irregular hours of work, and rotating shifts to include nights, weekends, and holidays with high periods of stress. Subject to changes in shift assignments following regulated notice periods.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing. Tentatively selected applicants will be required to sign a DA Form 5019 requiring participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
- Must be able to pass pre-employment and periodic medical examinations based on requirement to lift up to 50 pounds.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Monitoring flight plans and assisting with the coordination of scheduled flights; 2) Assisting with airfield inspections for conditions of airfield and security of airfield; AND 3) Assisting with maintaining daily dispatch logs and preparing reports. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Education: A master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in accounting, business administration, business or commercial law, commerce, economics, engineering, finance, industrial management, statistics, traffic management, transportation, motor mechanics, nautical science, marine affairs, marine engineering, marine transportation, or other fields related to the position. Education/Experience Combination: Specialized experience as described in above, but less than one year; and a master's degree or one year of graduate education as described above, but less than the required two years. I have computed the percentage of the requirements that I meet, and the total is at least 100% (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then, divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
