THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 5 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a SOCIAL WORKER, Position Description Number T59128P1 and is part of the 109TH AW, National Guard. This vacancy does not meet the criteria for appointment of annuitants. This is an Indefinite position with the possibility to convert to Permanent.

Duties

As a SOCIAL WORKER GS-0185-12, you will provide operational leadership consultation, direct client services, community capacity building, preventive, remedial, and support services aimed at improving and sustaining the psychological health of Air National Guard (ANG) military members and their families.

Requirements

• Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
• May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
• Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance within 1 year of appointment.
• This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.
• Selective Placement Factor: Possess a current, unrestricted license to practice clinical social work independently in any one of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or the U.S Virgin Islands.
• Must be privileged for independent practice by the Credentials Committee at the employing Medical Treatment Facility.
• A minimum of two (2) years within the past five (5) years in the independent practice of clinical social work is highly desired.
• Position requires Basic Life Support (BLS) in accordance with local MDG policies. Must be obtained with 6 months of onboarding.
• Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
• Incumbent may share on-call duty during weeknights and/or weekends on a rotational basis as required consistent with other mental health professionals of the same specialty performing like duties.
• This position may be identified as having “regular contact with children,” requiring a State Criminal History Repository (SCHR) check to be completed on any person selected for the position.
• Completion of appropriate clinical and administrative duties may involve “after hours” care or work in addition to regular duty hours.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have 24 months of experience in clinical social work assignments. Completion of the Air Force Social Work Internship Program may be substituted for 12 months of the specialized experience requirement. This experience demonstrates particular competencies of knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Knowledge of social work theories, principles, techniques, and resources. Must have specialized experience in professional social work that includes interviewing people to establish the nature and extent of their problems, helping them work-out plans for improving the situation, providing assistance and services, referring them to community resources and other organizations as indicated, and assisting them to understand and modify their own patterns of behavior when appropriate. Except as stated above, no other substitution of education for specialized experience is allowed.

Education

Master's degree in Social Work from a graduate school of social work accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) must be acceptable to The Surgeon General.
