This is a supervisory position within the Ships and Facilities branch of San Francisco Maritime National History Park (SAFR), in San Francisco, CA. The purpose of this position is to serve as supervisory vessel master for a park fleet of a dozen of sailing, rowed, and propelled vessels.
Duties
MAJOR DUTIES:
Is the master of both designated and delegated vessels, by both law and tradition.
Oversees and manages all operational safety aspects, including but not limited to: proper navigational operations; safety of cargo and personnel; proper loading of cargo; and determinations as to whether to operate in certain sea and/or weather conditions.
Provides administrative and technical supervision and oversight of vessel crews which includes other Federal employees, several non-profit partner employees, and/or skill/trained volunteers.
Oversees operational readiness, upkeep/maintenance, and preservation of five (5) National Historic Landmark vessels (in addition to the dozen small vessel fleet).
Inspects all park vessels on a periodic basis and recommends repairs.
