A full-time permanent position is available for Medical Director of the Primary Care - Mental Health Integration (PCMHI) team at the VA North Texas Health Care System Mental Health Service (VANTHCS MHS) in Dallas, TX.

Duties

Core responsibilities include leading and coordinating the operations of a multidisciplinary outpatient team with a focus on uninterrupted high-quality care to Veterans. Incumbent monitors and ensures compliance with VANTHCS and mental health policies, regulations, executive orders and management directives. Incumbent will collaborate with other teams and team leaders to improve communication and to ensure ongoing continuity of care for Veterans. In conjunction with the Clinical Directors and Nurse Manager of this Mental Health Team, the incumbent plans, organizes, and directs administrative, operational, patient and personnel activities for the team. Duties include coordinating interdisciplinary staffing, work assignments, resource allocation and direct patient care. Incumbent should be skilled in providing integrated mental health care in primary care clinic settings through collaboration with primary care physicians and primary care nurses. Core responsibilities also include providing triage services to Veterans new to Mental Health. Duties will include consulting with primary care physicians, providing brief mental health assessments and time-limited follow up to Veterans not established in specialty mental health, and educating veterans, nurses, and mental health staff about behavioral health issues. Incumbent must be skilled in general outpatient psychiatry, including diagnostic evaluations, pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy. He/she should be competent in the management of individuals with a broad range of clinical problems, including but not limited to post-traumatic stress disorder, mood, anxiety and psychotic disorders, substance use disorders and psychiatric disorders in the elderly Veteran population. The incumbent will serve as a collaborative member of a multidisciplinary mental health team. He/she may provide clinical supervision for health care professionals such as Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, and Clinical Pharmacy Specialists. Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Podiatrist Basic Requirements Degree as a doctor of podiatric medicine, or its equivalent, from a school of podiatric medicine approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. Approved schools are United States schools of podiatric medicine approved by the Council on Podiatry Education of the American Podiatry Association in the year in which the degree was granted. ~AND~ Completed, or currently completing, residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. VA Podiatrists involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status. Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education, the Council on Podiatric Medical Education, in the list published for the year the residency was completed, or (2) Other residencies and training experiences, or their equivalents, which the local Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training. ~AND~ Currently hold, or will hold, a full and unrestricted license to practice Podiatry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia. Physical Requirements: Moderate lifting (15-44 pounds), light carrying (under 15 pounds), straight pulling, pushing, reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, walking, standing, kneeling, repeated bending, ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously, near vision correctable (at 13" to 16" to jaeger 1 to 4), far vision correctable ( in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other), hearing (aid permitted), emotional and mental stability, and clear speech.

Education

Applicants must possess a doctor of podiatric medicine degree, or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in podiatric medicine and surgery. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed.
