About the Position: Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune is a 246-square-mile United States military training facility in Jacksonville, North Carolina. Its 14 miles of beaches make the base a major area for amphibious assault training, and its location between two deep-water ports allows for fast deployments.

Duties

Establish written procedural guides (SOPs) and instructions for safety and sanitation and general cafeteria operation, to include training sessions on cooking, baking, and other program requirements. Utilize USDA-approved, Child Nutrition software systems to include Point of Sale (POS), student eligibility, menus, production records, inventory, financial management, and procurement. Ensure accountability of purchased food, supplies, equipment, and USDA Foods. Oversee and approves operation of the free and reduced price meal program in accordance with laws and regulations, publishing guidelines, making determinations on applications, and coordinating with other personnel, as required. As a working supervisor, provide direct supervision to all non-appropriated fund (NAF) cafeteria workers including cooks, cashiers, and food service workers. Provide a full range of supervisory duties including hiring, training, developing, coaching, evaluating, directing, counseling, etc. to ensure program goals and standards are met in order to accomplish the mission. Prepare and maintain the annual School Meal Program budget including purchasing, payroll, and capital investments.

Requirements

  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Requirement.

  • Appointment subject to a suitability/fitness determination, as determined by a background investigation.

  • This position requires a Tier 1 (T1) investigation with Childcare Checks since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age.
  • A valid driver's license is required.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: U.S. Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: managing school meal programs in accordance with US Department of Agriculture standards; operating a school meal program within determined budgetary guidance; and monitoring meal programs such as: School Breakfast Program, the Child and Adult Care Food Program; and/or Free and Reduced Meal applications in the National School Lunch Program. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: food and nutrition, food service management, dietetics, family and consumer sciences, nutrition education, culinary arts, business, or other related field. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
