The purpose of this position is to clean and maintenance of environmental sanitation within the acceptable levels of bacteriological, as well, visual, cleanliness throughout the hospital, several office buildings, and one health center. This position is located in Chinle Service Unit, Division of Administrative Services, Housekeeping Department, Chinle, Arizona.
Duties
Competition for Housekeeping Aid positions is restricted by law to persons entitled to veterans' preference as long as such applicants are available for appointment.
Performs a full range of cleaning in a hospital environment.
Empties wastebaskets, disinfects inside and outside of waste baskets.
Replenishes paper supplies and liquid soap in dispensers.
Scrubs and/or strips floor surfaces with low speed floor machines.
Inspects, sorts and delivers clean linen to patient care areas.
Washes walls with wall-washing equipment.
Performs special cleaning procedures for surgical suites, obstetric unit, central sterile supply and nursery.
Uses prescribed protective isolation cleaning procedures.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

There is no specific length of training or experience required: However, applicants will be rated on the basis of their responses to the Occupation Questionnaire that you possess the competencies to perform the duties that position without normal supervision, and the information contained in their resume.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Moderate physical effort is required continuously in performance of manual cleaning tasks. Walking standing for long periods, required bending, pulling, lifting, pushing, and climbing. There are occasionally short periods of more physical effort when moving furniture and lifting of items over twenty-five (25) pounds, occasionally objects weighing over fifty (50) pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Will be working inside with adequate lighting, ventilation and occasionally outside when washing of windows. Will be exposed to some mechanical hazard, some moving objects, wet floors, to skin irritation form strong cleaning solution used in disinfections, in stripping of floors, etc., and danger of falling off step ladders, scaffolds, in cleaning high areas, hanging of drapes and curtains, and with risks of exposure to contagious disease, radiation or infection.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
