You will serve as a ELECTROMOTIVE EQUIPMENT MECHANIC in the NAVFAC SOUTHWEST PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT of NAVFAC SOUTHWEST.

Duties

You will perform journeyman level maintenance involving troubleshooting and repairing a variety of electrical powered vehicles. You will overhaul complex alternating and direct current electrical components and wiring circuits on weight and material handling equipment, i.e., forklifts, mobile cranes, industrial platform vehicles, scissor lifts, and personnel platform lifts. You will perform major and minor repairs to all other associated systems, i.e., engine/motors, cooling, hydraulic, fuel, steering and brake. You will make adjustments to voltage regulators, limit switches, governors, and relays to ensure proper operation.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision: 1) Performing all functions related to disassembles and overhaul motors, generators, alternators, controllers, relays, and circuit breakers; 2) Checking electrical circuits; repairing or replacing such parts as coils in relays, time delays, magnetic brake assemblies, defective wiring, and switches; 3) Performing minor repairs to batteries, hydrometer tests, discharge rate, and cell checks; 4) Performing major and minor repairs to gasoline and diesel engines, cooling, hydraulic, fuel, brake, and steering; 5) Recycling and recharging batteries.
