This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Performs a limited range of work involved in the repair, service and maintenance of the turret components of combat vehicles and self-propelled turret artillery.

Duties

Determines the nature and extent of repairs required, disassembles, examines parts and assembles for serviceability, replaces parts and assemblies as required and available, and adjusts. Repairs mechanical and hydraulic systems and assemblies such as: elevating, traversing, recoil, loading, ramming and firing systems, lockout cylinders and breech. Removes, services, and replaces artillery tubes. Detects malfunctions and services electrical components of artillery turrets such as: wiring harness, firing circuits, electrical relays, solenoids, switches and circuit breakers. Services and recharges pneumatic components with pressure up to 3285 psi. Repairs and maintains hydraulic lines and fillings capable of withstanding pressure up to 2400 psi. Performs organizational maintenance involving inspection, cleaning, servicing, preserving, lubricating, and adjustment of one or several types of towed, self-propelled, and turret artillery, and their mounts, turrets, and carriages. Conducts manual and operational test of equipment, in addition to review of maintenance records determine type of work to be done, parts to be replaced, and adjustments necessary.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
  • One year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing field level maintenance involving inspections of several types of towed, self-propelled, and turret artillery systems, their mounts and carriages. Conducts visual and operational test of equipment, in addition to review of maintenance records and forms, to determine type of work to be done, parts to be replaced and or installed, and make necessary adjustments.
