This Sanitarian position serves as the Albuquerque Area Indian Health Service (AAIHS) Injury Prevention Specialist, Division of Environmental Health Services (DEHS). In consultation with the Director of the DEHS program the incumbent will plan, implement and evaluate a comprehensive Area Injury Prevention (IP) program. The overarching goal of the AAIHS IP Program is to reduce injury mortality and morbidity.

Duties

Serve as the primary liaison and program lead on all items related to community injury prevention within the AAIHS. Lead and/or support the collection, quality assurance and analysis of injury data in accordance with any/all applicable processes, systems and/or agreements that exist across the AAIHS. Provide a monthly injury prevention update during the DEHS Team Huddle, Northern and Southern District IP Monthly Report Outs and any other DEHS staff meetings determined necessary for IP in the AAIHS. Work with tribal, state and non--tribal programs/entities to develop and maintain a surveillance system with morbidity, mortality and other preventative metrics for Area Projects. Coordinate and advocate for IHS and Tribal programs to apply for IP funding opportunities (e.g. Ride Safe, Sleep Safe, CDC MVC Prevention Grants, IHS TIPCAP). Serve as lead coordinator and/or trainer for AAIHS IP courses online and in-person Provides and assists the Northern and Southern District EHOs as well as field Environmental Health staff with general Environmental Health services as directed by the DEHS Director on a yearly basis.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Monitoring and reviewing injury prevention programs and grants; resolve programmatic problems that hinder efforts to implement injury prevention programs on a community-wide level; make strategic recommendations for community-wide improvements to injury prevention programs; comply with policies and regulation in regards to public health; lead, develop and provide injury prevention training to community members to grow programs; collect data, prepare reports and evaluate program operations revolving around injury prevention projects, making recommendations to improve overall function/direction. Selective Placement Factor In addition to the minimum requirements, the following registration as a Registered Sanitarian or Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) is determined to be essential to perform the duties and responsibilities of a particular position. Applicants who do not meet a selective placement factor are ineligible for further consideration. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
