This Position is located at the Overton Brooks VA Medical Center, Engineering Service as a working leader in charge of all work to the Building Maintenance Unit. assigned to the The work involves constructing, altering, maintaining, and repairing buildings, structures, partitions, panels, tool cabinets, bookcases, work benches, and other items using wood, wood substitutes, and composite building materials.

Duties

The position is considered a working leader in charge of all work assigned to the Building Maintenance Unit. Responsibilities and Duties includes: Leads five (5) WG-9 journeyman carpenters, carpenter helpers, summer working aides, etc., when assigned. Lead any hire of temporary journeyman painters and carpenters hired in connection with hospital nonrecurring or minor improvement projects. Oversee all assigned maintenance to include the installation/removal of walls, ceilings, additions, and design of areas that require remodeling. Assigns and approves key and lock requests given to the Lock shop. Ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and completion of assigned work orders. Assigns work to the unit work force daily, prepares irregular tours and other schedules and submits them in advance to the supervisor, Utilities and Buildings, for approval. Responsible for preparing estimates, ordering of materials for hospital projects for hospital projects, nonrecurring carpentry and maintenance painting and regular recurring carpentry and maintenance painting. Keeps records of all preventive maintenance, time on work orders, parts or materials used, signs subsidiary time and attendance sheets, and completes and checks accuracy and signs employee activity sheets. Perform other related duties that may be assigned. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The work requires considerable bending, kneeling, and stooping. When at a job site, strenuous physical exertion is sometimes required when handling heavy and bulky materials such as sheets of plywood, framing members, and other building and construction materials.
