Duties

Serves as a resource staff to Central Office branches as required on issues related to treatment models for civilly committed sex offenders and the development of sex offender treatment programs for this population. Serves as Bureau of Prisons' (BOP) subject- matter expert on issues related to the treatment of civilly committed sex offenders. Represents the BOP in court and with other outside entities on matters pertaining to the treatment of civilly committed sex offenders. Given the visibility and public scrutiny of civil commitment programs for sex offenders, must maintain a high level of professional expertise to effectively represent the BOP in public. Given the highly litigious context of treatment for civilly committed sex offenders, must develop programs that meet the highest professional standards, and must possess the expertise to explain and account for all clinical activities occurring in the Commitment and Treatment Program (CTP). In addition to extensive knowledge of clinical and professional standards, the must possess and maintain expertise in legal standards as defined by Federal statute and relevant case law.

Qualifications

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following: Basic Requirements: Satisfactory completion of all the requirements for a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) directly related to full professional work in clinical psychology is required. NOTE: Applicants may have received this degree in either clinical or counseling psychology. AND Education: There is no substitution of education for specialized experience for this position. In addition to the Basic Requirements above, you must also have: Experience: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level. To be creditable, this experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular assessments to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically be in or related to the position to be filled. Some examples of the qualifying experience are: Experience in the assessment and treatment of sex offenders in a correctional setting. Experience performing individual and group psychotherapy with sex offenders. Experience with a wide variety of empirically based treatment modalities and techniques including behavior therapy, cognitive behavior therapy, crisis intervention, social skills training, motivational interviewing, and relapse prevention. Experience with a wide variety of objective assessment instruments including intellectual, personality, sexual deviancy, and risk assessment. Experience in the supervision and training of subordinates. If applicable, credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience. To receive proper credit, you must show the actual time (such as the number of hours worked per week) spent in activities. **Your eligibility for consideration will be based on your responses to the questions in the application.**
