This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Hawaii has many outdoor activities all year round including surfing, fishing, and hiking.

Duties

Works on a wide range of environmental studies and support activities involving the ecology and biology of animals and plants with emphasis on ecologically or economically important species. Plans and conducts short- and long-range term field investigations to determine the impact of proposed projects on terrestrial and aquatic communities. Assists the Natural Resources Manager in writing, updating, and implementing measures required by various Biological Opinions. Serves as a biologist engaged in the assessment of impacts of military construction projects providing special support in biology and associated ecology disciplines.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• Protective equipment is necessary for work with power tools and herbicides.
• Must obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license to operate vehicles.
• Temporary Duty (TDY) travel may be required up to 10% of the time. May be required to travel via both military and commercial land and air transportation.
• Participation in management meetings may involve extended work hours.
• A pre-employment physical examination is required and annually thereafter.

Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR 2. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. AND In addition to meeting the basic requirements above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualifications listed below: Specialized Experience: One year specialized experience which includes conducting short- and long-range term field investigations to determine the impact of proposed projects on terrestrial and aquatic communities. The definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
