In this position you will work as a member of the Mount Weather Emergency Operations Center (MWEOC), Emergency Services Division, Police Branch. MWEOC is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, approximately 60 miles west of Washington, DC. The ideal candidate for this position will have experience maintaining law and order, protecting life, property, and civil rights of individuals, and national security information.

Duties

All MWEOC staff have emergency assignments and are considered deployed in place. Exercises and activations are planned and unplanned, and may require long hours, nights, weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

Current Federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the Federal service. The time-in-grade requirement must be met within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement. To qualify for this position at the GS-07 level, you must possess one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 level in the Federal government, which has equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. Experience may be obtained in the federal government, a state or local government, or private sector, and must demonstrate the following Applying law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques OR; Conducting long and short-term investigations OR; Identifying/arresting violators OR; Taking witness statements and writing incident reports. AND In addition to the minimum qualifications described above, you must have already completed a Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers' (FLETC) Uniform Police Training Program, Mixed Basic Training Program, or Criminal Investigator Training Program requirement to be considered qualified for the position. National Law Enforcement Accountability Database (NLEAD): This position has been identified as a Law Enforcement Officer position. As such, selected candidates' personal information will be used to search the National Law Enforcement Accountability Database (NLEAD). NLEAD will be used as part of the pre-employment process to determine the selected candidates' trustworthiness, suitability, and/or eligibility for this position. The search must have favorable results for the selected candidates to continue in the process. NLEAD is a centralized repository of official records documenting instances of misconduct, including as appropriate, the following categories: 1) records of criminal convictions; 2) suspension of a law enforcement officer's enforcement authorities, such as de-certification; 3) terminations; 4) civil judgments, including amounts (if publicly available), related to official duties; and 5) resignations or retirements while under investigation for serious misconduct or; 6) sustained complaints or records of disciplinary action based on findings of serious misconduct. Additionally, the database will include commendations and awards for federal law enforcement officers. The NLEAD is accessible only to authorized users to help determine suitability and eligibility of candidates for law enforcement positions. During employment, if the selected candidates are in violation of one or more of the six categories cited above, their information will be included in the NLEAD database in accordance with Executive Order (EO) 14074 on Advancing Effective, Accountable Policing and Criminal Justice Practices to Enhance Public Trust and Public Safety.
