This position serves as the Chief, Audiology for the Phoenix Indian Medical Center located in Phoenix, AZ. The Chief of Audiology serves as the expert resource and technical specialist for planning, developing, implementing, coordinating and evaluating the audiology component of a broad range of referral health programs involving complex organizational structures, diverse health care programs, and projects as well as research and training programs and projects.
Duties
Performs a wide range of audiologic services across all patient age ranges from neonatal to geriatric to ascertain the type and degree of hearing loss, including specialized diagnostic measures such as Auditory Brainstem Response testing.
Provides professional counseling to patients regarding the testing process, hearing, and hearing loss. Performs comprehensive hearing aid evaluations, selection, and fitting of appropriate hearing aids and assistive listening devices based on the type and degree of hearing loss.
Provides professional leadership and program direction in administrative practices, education and research related to clinical audiology services.
Exercises delegated authority to: plan and revises work schedules to set deadlines for regular and peak workloads.
Supervises and directs the Audiology Department.
Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Degree - A graduate or higher level graduate degree that included 18 semester hours in the field of audiology with approved clinical practice. The educational program must have been approved, recognized or accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) at the time the degree was obtained.
License - A full, current, and unrestricted license to practice Audiology in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below-
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Senior clinician, independently selecting, administering and interpreting a full range of consultative and diagnostic Audiology procedures for patients of all ages; experience with leadership and management.
Supervisory Abilities: This is a supervisory position and candidates, in addition to the professional qualifications listed, must have demonstrated in their work experience or training, that they possess, or have potential to develop, the qualities of successful supervision, as required for this position.
The selected individual is required to maintain licensure requirements. If license is not maintained during employment, the employee will be subject to adverse actions, up to and including, removal from Federal service.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
