The primary purpose of this position is to accomplish trades and labor work of Maintenance Mechanics, Electronics Industrial Controls Mechanics, and Liquid Fuels Maintenance Mechanics. Responsible for water systems, wastewater collection systems, liquid fuel distribution and storage facilities, storm water collection, fire suppression and detection systems

Duties

- Performs maintenance, calibration and repair of highly complex pneumatic, electronic and mechanical controls of utility systems which contribute to total system operation. - Performs operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs of various special utility systems including fire detection and suppression systems, electric and diesel driven booster pumps, motors, control panels, sprinkler heads, water storage tanks/reservoirs. - Performs operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs to various special utility systems including water wells, dewatering lift stations, lagoons, and compressed air system piping, meters, regulators, and components. - Independently installs, modifies, repairs and maintains a variety of new and existing utility systems, disposal systems and equipment, such as water components, sanitary wastewater components, storm water system components, manholes, valves, fittings, water closers, tubs, showers, fixtures, valves, piping, and fittings. - Performs emergency, urgent, and routine repair of liquid fuels systems and components in accordance with regulatory requirements. - Operates motorized equipment such as skid steer loaders, trash pumps, demolition saws, specialized pickup trucks, industrial hydro sewer vacuums, jetter truck and trailers.

  • May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours. Shift work may be required. Emergency overtime may be required.
  • The employee may be in an on-call status and required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • The work may require that the employee be certified in the use of a respirator.
  • The work may require that the employee be certified or able to be certified as qualified for entry into hazardous liquid fuel tanks for inspection, cleaning, and repair.
  • The work will require the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver’s license is required for the position.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate Secret security clearance.
  • This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Class S Water Treatment Operator license for the State of Colorado.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-4700 General Maintenance and Operations Work Group. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is ability to do the work of a MAINTENANCE MECHANIC without more than normal supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of the operation, capabilities and limitations of highly complex electronic systems by a variety of multicomponent assemblies and devices; knowledge of electronic theory of circuits and basic logic of power, level indicators, flow indicators and similar devices. 2. Knowledge of technical practices in order to perform various operational repairs and preventive maintenance to include routing, placement, slant, slope, and fall of systems; and of technical practices in order to plan, layout, install, modify, troubleshoot, and repair various systems and equipment. 3. Knowledge of safety and work regulations, practices, and procedures, particularly those applicable to Uniform Facilities Criteria (UFC), Air Force Occupational Safety and Health (AFOSH), Occupational and Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) protocol and regulations and any other that apply to fire suppression systems, asbestos, Lockout Tag Out, fall protection and confined space entry. 4. Skill in installing, modifying, and repairing new and existing utility systems including water, liquid fuels, compressed air, storm water, and fire suppression mechanical and electronic control systems and equipment without more than normal supervision. 5. Skill in the use of measuring instruments such as gauges, meters, recorders, analog and digital displays, and computer-generated data to determine operational status and make necessary adjustments. 6. Ability to interpret diagrams, drawings, operating manuals, or special facility procedures to be followed during emergencies, equipment failures or system malfunctions. Ability to use shop mathematics, take measurements, and lay out of system and calculate flow rates. Ability to test, calibrate, troubleshoot, overhaul, repair and install highly complex electronic systems associated with utility systems, liquid fuels systems, fire suppression systems, and compressed air systems. Physical Effort: Performs work that involves frequent bending, reaching, crouching, kneeling, crawling, stooping, standing, arm movement, and climbing. Sometimes must work in awkward, tiring, or uncomfortable positions, or cramped areas. Frequently lifts, carries, and sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 50 pounds. Occasionally lifts items that weigh over 50 pounds using hoists jacks, or with assistance from other workers. May be required to make repairs and installations from ladders and scaffolding. Working Conditions: Work is performed both inside and outside and may be subject to extreme heat and cold and hard, damp floors or surfaces. Work is usually in areas that noisy, dirty, dusty, and greasy. May be required to make installations and repairs outside during inclement weather. Frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, strains, bruises, burns, infections, and skin abrasions. Occasionally exposed to the possibility of broken bones. Works around machinery or moving parts. Sometimes required to make installations and repairs in areas where bad smells are present. Uses and maintains prescribed safety/protective clothing and equipment such as hard hat, safety glasses, safety toed shoes, belts, face shields, respirators, ear protection devices, gloves, and coveralls for long periods of time. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social).
