The Transportation Assistant reports directly to the Supervisor, Mobility Manager at the John D. Dingell Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center. The Transportation Assistant acts as the primary contact to the Veterans for transportation needs and works with the Veteran Transportation Service Supervisory Mobility Manager for transportation workload forecasting, scheduling design, procedure development and quality improvement, modification of process, and ongoing operational flow.
Duties

Major duties and responsibilities will include:
Performs work involving consult management, appointment scheduling and admissions scheduling.
Daily responsibilities include collecting, compiling, and tracking data and statistical information in support of Veteran Transportation Service (VTS).
Performs a basic analysis on the data and generates a variety of reports.
Reviews documents, reports and/or applications for omission and inconsistencies and ensures data entry is complete and accurate.
Enters pertinent information into a automates tracking systems.
Maintains automated system of program-specific data to track items such as service project milestones progress reports, program trends, performance measure compliance strategies etc.
Coordinates service practices that decrease waits and delays for patients in all specialty areas.
Plans consults processing flow to ensure veterans receive consultation services in a timely manner.
Plans for, organizes, administers, and directs how work will be accomplished for the Veteran Transportation Service (VTS).
Validates program workload and ensuring accurate reporting daily.
Provides advice to operating managers and supervisors on how provided services assist in accomplishing their mission and programs.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday - 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM

Qualifications
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-6: You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-05) in the Federal Service, that is directly related to the work of the position and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties as a Transportation Assistant. Qualifying specialized experience includes performing transportation support duties such as coordinating, scheduling and documenting travel information; coordinating day to day program flow, processes, and functions of transportation services or other mileage reimbursement program; collecting, compiling, performing basic analysis of data, and generating a variety of reports; entering data into automated tracking data bases; and planning/directing a program that provides support services. (THIS EXPERIENCE MUST BE SUPPORTED BY YOUR RESUME TO BE CREDITABLE.)

Physical Requirements: The Transportation Assistant will be exposed to stressful working situations that require a professional attitude and collective reasoning. The employee is subject to a high volume of work, the need for accuracy, frequency of interruptions and ever changing demands due to program changes.
