Duties

As a Health Scientist you will: Develop scientific findings and recommendations for public health decision-makers for presentation at profesionall meetings, national and international conferences, and publication in peer-reviewed journals. Provide leadership and direction for staff and office activities with regard to its operations and systematic reviews which endeavor to improve the effectiveness of public health programs and policies. Provide public health decision makers with recommendations regarding evidence-based population-based interventions to promote health and to prevent disease, injury, disability, and premature death, appropriate for use by community and health care systems. Maintain and enhance the public health applicability and the scientific credibility of the Community Guide and other systematic evidence reviews used in developing recommendation by effectively conveying the value of research synthesis for public health decision-making to audiences of practitioners and researcher at all levels of government and non-governmental organizations. Supervise a small contingent of positions.

Qualifications

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Minimum Qualifications: To qualify at the GS-15 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-14 grade level, which must include the following experience: providing leadership and consultation on designing and evaluating research relating to public health issues; developing and implementing public health methodologies and strategies; and collaborating with national and international partners to improve population health. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Copy of your transcripts or equivalent documentation is required for positions with an education requirement, or if you are qualifying based on education or a combination of education and experience. An official transcript will be required if you are selected.

You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
