Duties
Delegated responsibility for the entire scope of administrative functions (excluding those of a direct clinical nature) to include interfacing with local hospitals and administrative personnel at the Naval Medical Center.
Incumbent is authorized to give out administrative information to callers upon determination of their right to receive it.
Discuss critical and privileged information with Professional Affairs Department for credentialing of professional employees.
Manage nursing officer fitness reports for the command and advises Chief Nursing Officer (CNO)/Director for Nursing Services (DNS) and nursing leadership on including proper key information.
Receive and read all official mail for the Chief Nursing Office/Director for Nursing Services (CNO/DNS).
On mail requiring decision of the Director, obtains relative information for his/her use and places it in priority order for his/her review.
n the absence of the CNO/DNS, assumes responsibility for ensuring that requests for actions or information, which would normally receive the CNO/DNS attention, are made known to the responsible staff member who can satisfy the request
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operation.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
- This position requires a typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute (WPM) with 3 or fewer errors.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service which includes using a computer to prepare travel arrangements, reviewing correspondence for grammar and format to ensure compliance with policy, creating reports and other documents, and receiving visitors and answering telephone calls.
OR
Education: One and a half years of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Business Administration, Public Administration, Management.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond one year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages.
In addition to meeting the specialized experience above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirement listed below:
Typing Proficiency: Must be able to type 40 words per minute with three or fewer errors.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
