Duties
Use a broad range of professional knowledge of advanced concepts, principles, procedures, and practices relevant to the substance abuse program and addiction medicine outpatient program o conduct comprehensive substance abuse treatment of patients.
Apply complex rehabilitation principles to conduct comprehensive substance use evaluations.
Assess primary and secondary problems to include behavioral health diagnosing.
Apply regulatory guidance to meet program requirements.
Hold primary case management responsibility for patients, using professional knowledge of outpatient and inpatient addiction medicine programs and alcohol and drug rehabilitation program concepts, principles, procedures, and practices
Develop and implement comprehensive treatment plans.
Conduct ongoing review of patient progress; evaluates and modifies treatment plans to meet changing needs.
Hold primary case management responsibility for implementing complex treatment plans, arranging for required services with other providers and/or outside resources as needed.
Develop and implement orientation and training for patients, medical staff, commanders and key unit personnel, supervisors, and in the community.
Consult with commanders and supervisory personnel to improve identification and referral procedures.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 15 lbs. in the regular performance of duties
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
- Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.

Basic Requirement for Social Worker (Substance Abuse):
Education: Master's degree (or higher degree) in social work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting clinical assessments of substance abuse patients; formulating behavioral health treatment plans; and providing professional counseling to substance abuse patients. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Licensure Preferred Not Required: A current, active, valid, unrestricted clinical license to practice Social Work independently, offered by a U.S. State, District of Columbia, commonwealth, territory or jurisdiction. (Note: Please attach a copy of your license.if you have obtained one)
