This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration, William J. Clinton Presidential Library. The Technician will perform duties associated with scanning, indexing, and description of digital images produced from original archival records; creation of technical and structural metadata; administration and data entry of information into one or more networked databases/systems; and quality control of both automated and manually created information.

Duties

The following are the duties of this position at the GS-09. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position. As a METADATA TECHNICIAN, you will: Create basic metadata to support digitization projects, establish minimal intellectual control over digitized resources, and prepare resources and metadata for submission to other systems, such as the Description and Authority Service (DAS), for eventual publication. Perform data entry of metadata records into a variety of databases, digital asset management systems, and other applications, using specialized software tools that support automated and manual systems of indexing of digital records. Primarily work on large-scale imaging production projects, but may also provide indexing, metadata creation, and data entry for a range of other projects, including digitization for exhibits, routine imaging, special requests, and other moderately complex digitization projects. Administer the Library's collection information database; perform data cleanup as necessary; and serve as primary liaison to overarching database administrators and application vendor. Perform scanning of both manual and automated indexing.

Specialized experience for the GS-7 level is defined as one year of experience at the GS-06 level, or equivalent, that is directly related to the position and which has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience for this position includes: Experience scanning a variety of formats, indexing and creating basic metadata assignments; AND Entry of information into databases. Specialized experience for the GS-6 level is defined as one year of experience at the GS-05 level, or equivalent, that is directly related to the position and which has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience for this position includes: Experience scanning textual records, indexing, and creating basic metadata assignments. In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable (as defined in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F): For the GS-07, you must have been at the GS-06 level for 52 weeks. For the GS-06, you must have been at the GS-05 level for 52 weeks.
