Duties

You will provide technical guidance to personnel, contractors and vendors for all matters related to ships mooring systems, deck configurations, crane operations and rigging. You will be responsible for the overall material condition, configuration, and utilization of the training ships deck. You will inspect mooring chain and lines, anchor chain and jewelry, lifting and rigging equipment for deficiencies. You will plan and execute ship tow evolutions and coordinate actions with tow vessel personnel. You will assist in modifying and making repairs to or replacing target materials at ranges and set up prior to training events. You will conduct line handling during mooring evolutions, crane operations and basic rigging; operate shipboard crane and perform basic rigging when required. You will maintain custody and accountability of Hazardous Material (HAZMAT) items and material Safety Datasheets (MSDA) and ensure adherence to regulations.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security SECRET security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to be licensed to drive government vehicles up to 5 ton or become licensed within a reasonable period of time after appointment.
  • You must be a certified materials handling operator up to and including shipboard 5-ton pedestal cranes or complete a crane certification course within a reasonable period of time.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. You will be required to sign a DD-Form-2760, Qualification to possess firearms or ammunition.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements.
  • This position may require travel (up to 20%) from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience with maritime training sites, ship training evolutions and target training ships; knowledge of structural engineering methods related to shipboard, knowledge of maritime tactics and live fire range procedures.
