This position is located within the Fitness/Sports Program, which is part of the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department aboard Naval Air Station, Jacksonville. This activity is maintained and operated as a service for all active duty, retired military and their dependents. Incumbent assist with intramural sporting events, clean and maintain sporting equipment and performs administrative duties as needed. Receives general guidance and supervision from the Sports Coordinator.

Duties

MARJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES Performs and/or assists in the operation of the recreation activity. May perform basic fitness orientation, identify and correct unsafe fitness techniques. Supervise intramural sporting events, clean and maintain facility and equipment, and perform administrative duties as needed. Greets customers and checks IDs to ensure only authorized patrons utilize the facility. Ensures customers are aware of all regulations and rules are followed while utilizing the facility. Sells products from concession area and ensures that funds are properly entered into the point-of-sale system. Prepares Daily Activity Report and deposits money for accounting. Performs general housekeeping duties such as ensuring entry area is neat and clean at all times. May assist in cleaning restrooms, policing grounds, sweeping, mopping and emptying trash receptacles in facility. Helps to plan and coordinate details of recreational activities and maintains related supplies. Assists in planning, scheduling, and publicizing various activities and motivate participants. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must meet Federal Employment suitability requirements and successful completion of background investigation. Background investigations are conducted using fingerprint identification and completion of background inquiry forms.
  • Must successfully pass the E-verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
  • You must go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form I-9.
  • May be required to pass pre-employment examinations.
  • Must provide proof of U.S. Citizenship or U.S. National.
  • A valid State driver's license is required to operate motor vehicles.
  • Must have your salary sent to a financial institution of your choice by Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Applicant must reside within 50-mile radius of the hiring installation (32212 NAS Jacksonville) at time of applying.
  • Work includes lifting up to 50 pounds unassisted (may life heavier weight, but with assistance).

Qualifications

Qualifying experience must have been equivalent to the next lower level in the normal line of progression. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Must have one to two years' experience and knowledge gained through relevant work experience which enables incumbent to competently and independently carry out day to day operations as described above. Knowledge and ability to operate a computerized point of sale system and provide proper change. Documented cash handling experience is preferred but not required. Must have the ability to meet and deal effectively with a variety of patrons of varied rates, ranks and backgrounds. Within 90 days of appointment, must possess and maintain a current CPR and AED Certification along with Navy Basic Fitness Certification. Incumbent will be required to multi-task; during peak hours of operations the incumbent must be able to effectively assist many patrons at the same time. Must be able to exercise good judgment in applying well established policies and procedures. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
