This vacancy is for a SECURITY ASSISTANT position in Census Investigative Services Division located at the U.S. Census Bureau Headquarters in Suitland, Maryland. The Census Bureau is accessible from the Metro Rail Green Line - Suitland Station.
Duties
Assists personnel security specialist in collecting appropriate background information, tracking and reviewing data, completion of reports, maintaining databases and processing follow-up actions on various security related matters.
Assists with suitability adjudications investigations, suitability determinations.
Works with applicants and employees to assure required background documents are complete and accurate as per policy (OF-306, SF-85, SF-85P, Rap Sheet, etc.)
Monitors the status of specific pending items, compiles data to produce reports, follows up to determine status and records results.
Reports are produced on a regular basis(weekly) to keep top level management apprised of the status of the Suitability/Security Program and for performance management/performance improvement initiatives.

Qualifications
This Job Opportunity Announcement may be used to fill other SECURITY ASSISTANT, 0086-7, FPL GS-7 positions within the Census Bureau in the same geographical location with the same qualifications and specialized experience.
Specialized Experience For GS-07: Must have one full year of specialized experience equivalent to
the next lower grade level (GS-6) that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled.
Special Experience which includes: 1) Processing Federal suitability and national security background checks; 2) Establishing, reviewing, and monitoring background investigation accounts through electronic security systems such as the Electronic Application for investigations; 3) Processing (eAPP) system, and/or the Personnel Investigations Processing System/Central Verification System (PIPS/CVS) system; and 4) Managing and tracking applicant electronic files; and review, analyze and release for scheduling with ISP all required security forms (SF-85/85P, OF-306 and Rap Sheet); and answer calls from customers who may be experiencing difficulties completing the security on-boarding process.
Education: Education can not substitute for experience at this grade level.
