This position is located in the United States Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, Field Organization Plains Area, US Meat Animal Research Center, Livestock Bio-systems in Clay Center, NE.
In this position, you will actively participate in one or more phases of the research process by performing a variety of technical duties in a laboratory and environments common to livestock.
Duties
Maintains an inventory of research-related chemicals, supplies, or samples.
Prepares solutions and reagents for use in laboratory or facilities common to animal research.
Maintains records and locates and compiles data and other information from various sources related to Animal research or molecular biological research.
Adapts, modifies, or develops new techniques or procedures to satisfy the needs of a molecular biology research project.
Interprets and documents findings by preparing information to be included in manuscripts or preparing reports summarizing progress or results of research.
Requirements
- You must be a US Citizen or US National.
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.

Qualifications

GS-05
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-05 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-04 which is directly related to the work of this position, and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience assisting in one or more phases of a research project by collecting or evaluating biological samples in a field or laboratory setting; and operating common laboratory equipment.
OR
Education: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as biology, chemistry, statistics, animal husbandry, botany, agriculture, or mathematics. At least 6 semester hours of courses must have been directly related to the position to be filled. Related courses may include animal science, genetics, molecular biology or cell biology, reproductive physiology.

GS-06
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for the GS-06 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to the GS-05 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience participating in a research project; collecting and evaluating samples, keeping detailed records of experimental data, recording and analyzing scientific data using software packages, and operating or maintaining standard scientific equipment.
OR
Education: One full year of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree, if directly related. Related courses may include animal science, genetics, cell biology, reproductive physiology, or other degrees related to the study of genetics or molecular biology.
OR
A combination of graduate-level education and specialized experience as described above.
GS-07
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for the GS-07 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to the GS-06 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience participating in research projects; utilizing standard scientific equipment used for test and evaluation procedures to collect research data; using laboratory and bioinformatics skills to prepare and analyze DNA or RNA sequence data.
OR
Education: One full year of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree, if directly related. Related courses may include animal science, genetics, cell biology, reproductive physiology, or other degrees related to the study of genetics or molecular biology.
OR
A combination of graduate-level education and specialized experience as described above.
