You will serve as a WELDER in the TRADES DIVISION of MARINE DEPOT MAINTENANCE COMMAND, of Marine Corps Logistics Command. This announcement uses the Domestic Def Industrial Base Facilities & Major Range/Test Facilities Base in DoD Direct Hire Authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service.

Duties

You will control metals and welding techniques to prevent distortion and meet weld dimension. You will weld metal alloys in different sizes and shapes (e.g., pipes, structural forms, plates, sheet metal, castings, forgings, boilers, shafts, turbines, valves, parts, equipment, and machinery). You will make welds that require complete penetration as well as complete fusion of base and filler metals. You will use measuring tools to verify metal parts and structures meet required size, shape, and thickness. You will use measuring devices (e.g., scales, tape measures, rulers, calipers, alignment indicators, micrometers) to perform weld measurements. You will incidental to welding work, may perform related trade procedures such as brazing, soldering, flame and arc cutting, surface hardening, annealing, and metal spraying. You will interpret multiple view prints and sketches, manufacturers manual, and technical manuals to perform welding projects.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Must be able to lift and carry loads weighing 50 - 100 lbs.
  • You may often lift and move heavier items with assistance of other co-workers and lifting devices (hoists, pallet jacks, overhead cranes).
  • Position will require good vision and hearing with or without artificial devices. Work will require analysis of completed work by process of sight, sound, and touch.
  • You will be subject to hot surfaces, sharp edges, gaseous fumes and sparks.
  • Position will be performed in various locations to include primary and secondary welding shops, line calls in main crane-way of trades or inside locations using portable welding equipment.
  • This position requires a State Criminal History Repository (SCHR) check to be completed on any person selected for this position.
