You will serve as an AIR CONDITIONING EQUIPMENT MECHANIC LEADER in the Production Divisionn of NAVFAC ENGINEERING CMD MID-ATLANTIC.

Duties

You will demonstrate proper work methods and ensure team is instructed on work requirements, sequence, procedures, and deadlines to be met. You will report to supervisor on status and progress of work and causes for work delay. You will make recommendations on trade training, objectives or curriculum, new training or trade tools to support the efficient and effective delivery of products and services. You will coordinate in-house technical trade training for Public Works Department supervisors and trade employees. You will repair HVAC systems and components in structures such as, warehouses, hangars, hospitals, large office buildings and complexes.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You must have a current state-issued Journeyman or Master’s license in HVAC.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current CFC/HFC Certification (Universal) as required by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • You will be required to obtain CPR certification.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain, within 12 months of onboarding, Confined Space Safety Course A-493-0030, through the Naval Safety and Environmental Training Center.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain, within 12 months of onboarding, and maintain, a Class “B” a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain, within 12 months of onboarding, and maintain, current licenses to operate Folk Lift, High Lift (JLG), Bucket Truck and/or construction equipment.

Qualifications

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. This position has a selective placement factor that will be used to screen out ineligible candidates. The selective placement factor is: Do you have a current state-issued Journeyman or Master's license in HVAC? In states without a journeyman/master's license classification in HVAC, do you have the equivalent local, state or national license required of HVAC techs working without supervision in the locality where the PWD is located. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO INSTRUCT by 1) Applying knowledge and skill in the principles and theories of air conditioning and refrigeration; 2) Providing technical trade expertise to the associated Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic (ACEM) trade workforce and Production Division Supervisors in the PW; AND 3) Diagnosing, locating and repairing malfunctions to the main operating mechanical components of large, complex heating, ventilation; air conditioning, and refrigeration systems (HVAC).
