The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has Engineering Technician (Construction) positions available in their Central Federal Lands Highway Division (CFLD). Projects occur primarily on Federal Lands managed by other Federal agencies (e.g., National Park Service & U.S. Forest Service) & include multi-state areas.

Qualifications

To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must meet the specialized experience qualifications for the grade. To qualify for the Grade 12, you must have at least one year of experience equal or equivalent to the GS-11 and it must include: Experience with the administration and inspection of Federal, State or local highway construction projects that included major operations such as grading, drainage, bridge construction, retaining wall construction, traffic flow and maintenance, and recycled or conventional paving; Experience applying highway technical engineering standards, practices, methods, and procedures to all stages of highway design, surveying, geotechnical analysis, erosion control, preparing plans, specifications, or estimate (PS&E) packages, and calculating pay item quantities for construction of highways and bridges. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Engineering Technical Knowledge- Knowledge of the concepts, principles and methods required to provide technical assistance. Contracting- Knowledge of how to administer contract requirements in order to ensure that projects are constructed in accordance with the plans, specifications, and requirements. Written Communication- Writes in a clear, concise, organized, and convincing manner for the intended audience. Oral Communication- Makes clear and convincing oral presentations. Listens effectively; clarifies information as needed.
