This position serves as a Nurse (Outpatient) located within a hospital or health center in the Billings Area Indian Health Service (IHS), Division of Nursing Services. Recruitment/relocation incentives up to 25% possible

Duties

Total Compensation Package - Check out IHS's outstanding total compensation package for this job: Total Compensation | Pay (ihs.gov) This position reports to the Supervisory Nurse or designee and will have the following duties: Provide comprehensive professional nursing care to patients. Input patient care information in manual and automated record systems. Perform procedures, treatments and medication administration. Administer medication orally, intramuscularly, subcutaneously, topically, etc. Provide instructions to patient and/or family members. A housing subsidy of up to $577.38 per pay period without dependents or $866.77 per pay period with dependents may be available. NOTE: This Open Continuous Announcement (OCA) allows acceptance of applications throughout the year with eligible applicants being placed on the OCA register and referred for consideration when vacancies occur. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. The Hiring Manager/Selecting Official may elect to utilize an available flexibility wherein applicants who are currently enrolled and expected to complete the required education and obtain the required licensure/certification/registration with 9 month(s) of applying, may be deemed tentatively qualified, Note: Employees currently assigned to positions in the Nursing series, 0610 as of September 2017 will be considered to have met the basic requriements for the position occupied. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Experience: The work experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. At the GS-9 and above grade level, many positions may require experience in a specialty area of nursing. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Basic Requirements for the GS-4: Possession of an associate's degree or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program. Basic Requirements for the GS-5 (or equivalent) Grade Level: Possession of a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing with no experience; OR Possession of a diploma or associate degree in professional nursing and one full year of professional nursing experience. Examples of experience include; Receive orientation and guidance on nursing policies, regulations, techniques and procedures, and general functions of the unit to which assigned. Under the supervision of a lead nurse, plans and provides nursing care, including medication and vaccine administration, EKGs, Blood Glucose testing, and other procedures once competent. Screens and evaluates the physical and psychosocial needs, of patients. Measures and records vital signs Basic Requirements for the GS-7 (or equivalent) Grade Level: Possession of a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing and eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement provision; OR Possession of a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing and at least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-5 grade level). Examples of experience include: Receive orientation and guidance on nursing policies, regulations, and general functions of the unit to which assigned. Independently plan and provide nursing care for individual patients, including medication and vaccine administration, EKGs, Blood Glucose testing, wound care, and other procedures once competency assessed. Screens and triages patients via face to face encounters or telephone. Assists in coordination of patient care with other departments and outside facilities. OR Possession of a diploma or associate degree in professional nursing and two full years of professional nursing experience. Examples experience include: Receive orientation and guidance on nursing policies, regulations, and general functions of the unit to which assigned. Independently plan and provide nursing care for individual patients, including medication and vaccine administration, EKGs, Blood Glucose testing, wound care, and other procedures once competency assessed. Screens and triages patients via face to face encounters or telephone. Assists in coordination of patient care with other departments and outside facilities. OR Completion of at least one full year of graduate education in a professional nursing educational program. Basic Requirements for the GS-9 (or equivalent) Grade Level: Possession of a master's degree in professional nursing; OR At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-7 grade level or above) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, or Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program. Examples of experience include; Observe and triage patient's conditions, assess nursing needs, provide required nursing care, and educates patients and family in proper health care of patients. Independently plan and provide nursing care for individual patients, including medication and vaccine administration, EKGs, Blood Glucose testing, wound care, and other procedures once competency assessed. Lead departmental teams and direct the work of health technicians, CMAs, LPN's and trainee nurses. Work in conjunction with other departments and outside facilities to ensure care is coordinated. Work closely with assigned provider to plan and execute patient centered care. Participate and direct Quality Assurance activities and in the roll out of new departmental initiatives. Time In Grade (Merit Promotion Candidates Only) Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
