This position is located within the Nevada Skies Youth Wellness Center located in Wadsworth, NV. This position serves as the Recreation Specialist and will evaluate recreation needs, plan, organize and administer recreation activities as part of the treatment program. The Recreation Specialist also introduces clients to forms of recreation as alternatives to alcohol and drug use. Performance of the recreational activities require working days, evenings, weekends and holidays.
Duties
Plans activities such as wilderness adventures, sports, physical fitness, cultural activities, and swimming based on the needs of patients.
Evaluates the effectiveness of activities, notating responses of participants.
Plans and leads periodic wilderness outings which may very from one day hikes to several days of backpacking trips in remote wilderness areas.
Completes recreational assessments of each patient to develop recreation plans to replace substance abuse associated activities.
Records progress in patient chars.
Must maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license to transport clients to the activity site.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT: Undergraduate and Graduate Education:Major study -- general recreation, or one of the appropriate fields of recreation such as outdoor recreation; recreation and parks leadership; wild land recreation management; natural resources recreation; youth recreation; public, urban, or community recreation; special populations recreation (e.g., senior citizens, institutional, etc.); or physical education. In addition to the Individual Occupational Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-0188-07:Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 Grade Level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples Include: Must be able to plan, collaborate, and implement community-based recreation activities; and facilitate group exercise classes.
OR Completion of (1) year of graduate-level education or have Superior Academic Achievement, in general recreation, or one of the appropriate fields of recreation such as outdoor recreation; recreation and parks leadership; wild land recreation management; natural resources recreation; youth recreation; public, urban, or community recreation; special populations recreation (e.g., senior citizens, institutional, etc.); or physical education.
OR Possess a combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage equals at least 100 percent to qualify for this GS-7 grade level.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
