Duties

Major Duties Statement The position is a Utility Systems Repairer-Operator for the Blue Ridge Parkway. This position is duty stationed in the Balsam Gap Sub-District located in Jackson County, North Carolina. The primary purpose of this position is to install, maintain, test, troubleshoot, upgrade, repair, and calibrate a variety of utility systems that require fully developed or journey level skills in various utility related trades such as electrical equipment repair, plumbing, wastewater treatment operation, water treatment operation, and air conditioning equipment operation. The utility equipment and systems maintained at this level involve moderately complex maintenance requirements and fully developed journey level skills. The incumbent serves as the designated North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality "Operator is Responsible Charge" for the Pisgah Wastewater Treatment Plant. Area/Duty Station Information The Blue Ridge Parkway extends 469 miles along the crest of the southern Appalachian Mountains through North Carolina and Virginia between two eastern national parks - Shenandoah and Great Smoky Mountains. Jackson County, North Carolina - The duty station is located at the Balsam Gap Maintenance Compound, which is near the city limits of Waynesboro, NC.All goods and services are available in Asheville and the surrounding communities.
