This position serves as Without Compensation Research Statistician within the Office of Research and Development (ORD). The VA Research Program strives to promote Veteran-centered care to improve patient experiences and outcomes across VA healthcare and community settings, and to advance value-driven care by providing Veterans the highest quality care at the lowest financial burden. Please note, there is no pay associated with this position.

Duties

Gathering data through surveys, tracking website visitors, or buying datasets. Ensuring data accuracy by identifying and fixing errors, duplicates, and outliers. Designing and maintaining databases, including choosing what data to store and how to relate categories. Using statistical tools and software to find patterns and trends in data. Creating charts, graphs, and dashboards to communicate findings. Work Schedule: Full-time (Without Compensation)

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 01/16/2025. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Experience: You must possess general experience that demonstrates (1) gathering data through surveys, tracking website visitors, buying datasets, or ensuring data accuracy by identifying and fixing errors, duplicates, and outliers; or (2) designing and maintaining databases, including choosing what data to store and how to relate categories. OR, Education: You must possess a graduate degree degree that included 15 semester hours in statistics (or in mathematics and statistics, provided at least 6 semester hours were in statistics), and 9 additional semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, or engineering; or in the social sciences including demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, social or cultural anthropology, health sociology, political science, public administration, psychology, etc. Credit toward meeting statistical course requirements should be given for courses in which 50 percent of the course content appears to be statistical methods, e.g., courses that included studies in research methods in psychology or economics such as tests and measurements or business cycles, or courses in methods of processing mass statistical data such as tabulating methods or electronic data processing; OR b) a Combination of education and experience -- courses as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The experience should have included a full range of professional statistical work such as (a) sampling, (b) collecting, computing, and analyzing statistical data, and (c) applying statistical techniques such as measurement of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple and multiple correlation, analysis of variance, and tests of significance. Physical Requirements: The work is predominantly sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there will be some walking, standing, bending and carrying of items of moderate weight such as large binders, banker style file boxes, meeting materials, papers, books or small parts. Hand and eye coordination for delicate testing procedures may be the only special physical demand required to perform the work.
