Painter position located in Frederick Law Olmsted National Historic Site, in the Maintenance Division.
This is a term position (more than 1 year) with an initial appointment expecting to last at least 13 months but may be extended up to a total of 3 years. Term positions do not convey permanent status in the Federal service.
Duties
Prepare surfaces (historic and non-historic) using a variety of methods and materials. Select and use surface techniques which result in proper adherence of coating materials.
Apply a variety of coating materials such as primers and paints using standard application techniques. Select and use appropriate methods of techniques best suited for proper finishes (historic and non-historic).
Remove scale, rust, grease, dirt and old paint from historic and non-historic metal and wood surfaces using scrapers, wire brushes, sanders, etc., so that coating materials will adhere properly.
Check historic and non-historic surfaces after applying coating materials such as primers, paints and corrosion preventive coatings to ensure that surfaces are fully coated and protected from skips, runs and drips.
Follow instructions, directions and guidance from supervisor when new tasks are assigned. Interpret oral and written work orders to plan the materials, tools and techniques needed to complete the assigned work.
