This position is located in the Department of Housing and Urban Development, Assistant Secretary for Policy Development and Research.

Duties

As a Social Science Analyst, you will: Recommend the most accurate, efficient, and effective sources of information on the various programs and issues. Design and produce ad hoc reports on the operations of the Department's programs in response to information requests from the Secretary, Deputy Secretary, and Program Assistant Secretaries. Consult with other Offices within PD&R and with other Offices in HUD to determine the most current and the most relevant information that would provide insight on HUD operations and proposed or revised policies. Design and conduct statistical analysis employing the best available data and appropriate social science research techniques, as needed, to quantify the performance of the Department's programs.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement. Specialized Experience: To be qualified for this position at the GS-14 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level, or equivalent, which is directly related to the position as listed in this announcement and has equipped the candidate with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position successfully. Specialized experience is defined as follows: Interpreting research findings and research methods to inform the development of laws, regulations, and programs regarding housing, health, community development or poverty issues; AND Communicating with program managers, Congress, or others about research relevant to the evaluation of community/urban development, housing, homelessness, social determinants of health, or poverty programs and initiatives; AND Conducting research on community development, housing, homelessness, health (as it relates to housing and community development), or poverty programs; AND Conducting or supervising statistical analyses on housing and urban/community development or health issues using social science principles and methods. Experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. To ensure full credit for your work experience, please indicate dates of employment by month/day/year, and indicate number of hours worked per week on your resume. Time-in-Grade: In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable: For the GS-14 you must have been at the GS-13 level for 52 weeks. Time After Competitive Appointment: Candidates who are current Federal employees serving on a non-temporary competitive appointment must have served at least three months in that appointment.

Education

Basic Requirements:
Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelors or higher degree in behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

OR
Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field

OR
Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. If you are qualifying based on foreign education, you must submit proof of creditability of education as evaluated by a credentialing agency. Refer to the OPM instructions.
