This position is primarily located at the Peach Springs Health Center but is responsible for providing services at the Supai Health Center and other Colorado River Service Unit clinics. The position serves as a staff dentist responsible for examining, diagnosing and treating commonly encountered dental diseases and dental health problems. The position reports to the Supervisory Dentist.
Duties
Performs oral and radiographic examination of the oral cavity and diagnosis of pathological or irregular conditions
Performs routine restorative procedures such as amalgams, resins, and stainless steel crowns on pediatric patients.
Skills in handling patient with difficult patient-behavior or communication problems.
Responsible for actions required for clinic compliance with Occupational Safety & Health Administration and The Joint Commission standards.
Aids the dental chief in managing and directing clinic patient flow
May perform acting supervisory duties at Peach Springs dental clinic as needed.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Education:
Must have a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from a school approved by the American Dental Association (ADA) or the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Licensure:
Applicants must have passed the National Board Dental Examinations (NBDE) which are developed and administered by the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations (JCNDE) and possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Medical Requirements:
Applicants must be able to distinguish shades of color.
In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-12
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Evaluation, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases, injuries, and disorders of the oral cavity and maxillofacial area, removal of decay, filing cavities, straightening, extracting, and repairing teeth, treating gum diseases, performing corrective surgery, making measurements/models for dentures to replace missing teeth, administering anesthetics, writing prescriptions; OR
Completed a 2-year residency program in dentistry, oral health, craniofacial sciences, or a related medical science.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
