This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Perform tasks in connection with the repair and maintenance of plumbing systems, sanitary sewer collection systems, storm drain systems, fire sprinkler systems, and landscape sprinkler systems.

Duties

Perform plumbing duties of moderate difficulty involving the repair of defective parts for plumbing systems. Clean and clears stoppages in sewer collection systems. Maintain and repair street drain collection systems to include clearing stoppages and closing joints. Maintain and repair automatic landscape sprinkler systems and accessories. Maintain and repair fire sprinkler systems, including wet pipe, dry pipe, reaction, and deluge, and associated parts such as fire alarm valves, switches, pumps, air compressors, and other related equipment. Remove asbestos containing materials such as pipe and tank insulation.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

Qualifications

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Plumbing Worker ~ without more than normal supervision. w Employee performs plumbing work such as troubleshooting, repair, replace, inspect and maintain plumbing equipment including, faucets, lavatories, sinks, toilets, flush valves, drinking fountains, domestic water heaters and hot water boilers, garbage disposals, backflow devices, circulation pumps and valves. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Efforts: Frequently works from ladders, scaffolding and platforms or in hard-to-reach places. Requires standing, stooping, kneeling, climbing, and working in tiring, uncomfortable positions. Frequently handles objects weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally heavier. Commonly lifts, carries, and sets up parts and equipment. Working Conditions: The work is performed inside and outside in all types of weather. The work is usually dirty, dusty, and greasy. Exposed to mud, water, and fumes. Frequently exposed to the possibility of scrapes, burns, and infections from unsanitary worksites. Exposed to possibility of electrical shock and falls from high places. Wears protective clothing and equipment to minimize exposure. Exposed to explosive nature of combustible gas.
