This position is part of the Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management - National Energy Technology Laboratory, Department of Energy. As a Environmental Protection Specialist, you will provide environmental management and environmental protection expertise and support to DOE programs, projects or initiatives.
Duties
As a Environmental Protection Specialist, you will:
Carry out complex DOE environmental protection/sustainability projects and initiatives.
Evaluate the effectiveness of new environmental protection/sustainability concepts and ideas.
Contribute to the development and implementation of a comprehensive Department wide environmental management program.
Manage project compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and other environmental statutes and regulations.
Coordinate with scientists, engineers, attorneys, and other environmental professionals in DOE and other agencies to exchange new information on environmental protection, sustainability and compliance to assure compatibility with similar activities being conducted.
Conduct studies of issues associated with the siting, permitting and integration of power plants, carbon capture systems, carbon dioxide pipelines, transmission lines and related facilities.
Requirements

Qualifications
BASIC REQUIREMENT:
GS-13 - SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level. Specialized experience for this position is defined as meeting ALL the following:
1. Reviewing environmental policies for factors that may affect projects, including siting, permitting and integration of power plants, carbon capture systems, carbon dioxide pipelines, transmission lines and other related facilities.
2. Developing information for stakeholders on environmental factors, including sustainability and compliance.
3. Contributing to the development of a comprehensive environmental management program.
GS-14 - SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level. Specialized experience for this position is defined as meeting ALL the following:
1. Identifying changes in environmental policies to determine how those changes may affect projects, including siting, permitting and integration of power plants, carbon capture systems, carbon dioxide pipelines, transmission lines and other related facilities.
2. Providing environmental protection advice to stakeholders to address technical elements, including sustainability and compliance.
3. Developing a comprehensive environmental management program.
"Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
