This position is located in Yukon-Charley Rivers and Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve, in the Arctic Inventory and Monitoring Network Division. This is a term position (more than 1 year) with an initial appointment expecting to last at least 13 months but may be extended up to a total of ten years. Term positions do not convey permanent status in the Federal service.

Duties

Biological Science Technician (Wildlife-GIS) position is concerned with research, conservation, and management of wildlife; the control of wildlife; or the determination, establishment, and application of the biological facts, principles, methods, techniques, and procedures necessary for the conservation, management, and control of wildlife. This position also is concerned with mapping, simple data analysis, and some data development using Geographic Information Systems and related equipment. Major duties may include: Provides Geographic Information System GIS products to biologists, ecologists, and biometricians, to support field work, data analysis, and outreach. Plans and executes aerial surveys of Dall's sheep, Muskox, and other wildlife species. Supports Biometricians with the storage, organization, and analysis of field data.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-01/10/2025-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level in the federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) that is directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience is experience that equips the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples of qualifying specialized experience may include: leading field surveys in remote locations to document and assess animal presence, abundance, reproduction, management issues and population dynamics using established protocols and standard scientific equipment (including Global Positioning System (GPS); managing, summarizing, and reporting wildlife data using computer software (such as Microsoft Access, Excel, Word, ArcGIS, Pathfinder Office, or comparable) to recommend wildlife management actions. You must include hours worked per week in your resume. -OR- EDUCATION: Successfully completed at least one full year of graduate level course work that is directly related to the work of the position from an accredited college or university. Examples of directly related studies include Wildlife Biology and Wildlife Management. You must submit transcripts. -OR- A COMBINATION OF SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION as described above: To combine education and experience, first take the number of semester hours, or equivalent, earned towards a graduate degree and divide by 18 semester hours, or the equivalent. Then take the number of months of full-time experience and divide by 12 months. Add the percentages together. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must submit transcripts and include hours worked per week in your resume. Important! To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
