Duties

This position is located in the Clement J. Zablocki Medical Center, Milwaukee, a complexity level 1A facility. The incumbent functions as a Laundry Work Leader within the Environmental Management Service. As a working leader, the incumbent is responsible for: Passing on to other workers the instructions received from supervisors and getting work started Working along with other workers and setting the pace. Demonstrating proper work methods. Assist the supervisor in preparation of estimates and ordering of materials for constructions, maintenance, repair, or improvements to systems and structures through the Medical Center. Seeing to it that needed plans, materials, and tools are available, and that needed stock is obtained from supply locations; Obtaining needed information or decisions from supervisors on problems that come up during the work; Maintaining a current knowledge, and answering questions of other workers on procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives (for example, technical orders); Seeing to it that there is enough work to keep everyone in the work crew busy; Checking work while in progress and when finished to see whether the supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines have been met; Urging or advising other workers to follow instructions received from supervisors, and to meet deadlines; Assuring that safety and housekeeping rules are followed (for example, assuring that limits of safe machine operation are not exceeded and that all tools are used properly); Reporting to supervisors on status and progress of work, and causes of work delays; Answering questions of supervisors on overall work operations and problems (for example, concerning additional on-the-job training requirements for individual employees). Help train employees on proper steps in completing work orders and associated tasks. Major Duties: Marks individual bundles: Decides on the correct identification to be used according to set procedure. Sets marking machine by pressing keys. stamps mark on laundry ticket and all unmarked laundry items. Checks number of items on ticket against those submitted. Notes on the ticket numbers of items that do not agree with ticket; nets small items such as socks; keep lot numbers separate. Clean and ink marking machine as required. Maintains production counts. Sorts: Receives tickets for one lot arranged in numerical order. Places tickets in bins or hangers in sequence. Sorts various groups of garments and linens into bins by matching identification symbols. Check numbers of items against those indicated on ticket. Places assembled bundles on conveyor for wrapping. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 01/06/2025. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The incumbent must have the ability to push linen carts weighing over 500 pounds routinely and lift bundles of linen weighing over 50 pounds. The position requires continuous walking, stooping, bending ,pushing, pulling, lifting, stamina and strength to perform heavy physical tasks over a long period of time. Duties require flexible hand, arm and finger movements. The position may require loading and unloading vehicles used in the transport and delivery of clean and soiled linen. Work is predominantly performed in a well-lighted temperature controlled building. When loading and unloading clean and soiled linen from vehicles the incumbent may be exposed to drafts from opened doors. When working in the laundry production area incumbent may be exposed to moist and warm conditions and moderate noise levels. When working with clean linen the incumbent must be conscious of the need to maintain components to the highest aseptic level possible. The employee must use the assigned PE items (gown and gloves i.e.) when working with soiled linens/ textiles to protect the employee from any potential hazards. The incumbent may be exposed to odors related to blood and body fluids contained in soiled linen as well as occasional hazardous objects.
