Duties

The primary purpose of this position is: to remove, install, modify, overhaul, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, align, calibrate, and rebuild multi-system avionics complexes consisting of multiple completely integrated electronic avionics systems where the complex accomplishes a number of major functions. The worker in this career field must demonstrate the ability to perform maintenance on one or more complete electronic integrated systems associated with the assigned aircraft and/or maintenance on automatic flight control systems, instrument systems, environmental systems, radar, communications, and navigation systems. Serves as an Air Reserve Technician (ART) providing training to assigned personnel in the accomplishment of tasks herein. Duties: 1: Removes, installs, modifies, overhauls, maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, aligns, calibrates, and rebuilds multi-system avionics complexes consisting of multiple completely integrated electronic avionics systems where the complex accomplishes a number of major functions. 2: Performs pretest, operational (functional), or final testing of electronic systems, components, or subassemblies. 3: Advises engineering personnel on the operation and maintenance effects of proposed Time Compliance Technical Orders (TCTO) and/or modifications on new or existing equipment. Complies with security procedures, regulations and policies. 4: Utilizes safety practices and tool control procedures following established safety rules and regulations to maintain a safe and clean work area. 5: Prepares/executes effective training plans to maximize training. Documents/recommends methods to improve equipment performance, technical data, and maintenance procedures by reporting hardware and software malfunctions, initiates material deficiency reports both on equipment and in technical data, and assists in design changes as necessary

Qualifications

OBLIGATED POSITION: This position is obligated to the former incumbent who has return rights to this position under 10 U.S.C. 1586. In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C for WG-2600 ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE FAMILY QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-2600 ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE FAMILY. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the ability to perform the work of an ELECTRONIC INTEGRATED SYSTEMS MECHANIC with little or no supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of electronic theories and practices of one or more complex integrated systems such as fire control, navigation, or automatic landing control systems; of integrated electronic, pneumatic, hydraulic, optical, fiber-optic, and mechanical systems; of such applications as radar, digital or analog computers, digital display devices, equipment cooling, and of the technology and practices which integrate these components into a total functional system; and of mathematics including algebra and trigonometric functions to adapt standard function to the specific requirements of the integrated systems. Knowledge of USAF Technical Order Program and its procedures. 2. Skill in the use of standard hand and power tools of the electronics trade. Skill in the set up and operation of computer controlled automated test equipment (ATE) and test stands, oscilloscopes (dual trace, storage, digitized), spectrum, network and distortion analyzers, frequency counters, and signal generators; in interpreting complex drawings, specifications, and schematics of complete integrated systems to recognize the function and interconnections of components, assemblies, subassemblies, and connecting cable/fiber-optics harness; and in troubleshooting, installing, repairing, and maintaining electronic integrated systems where circuit theory must be used to understand the operation of a large number of circuits and functions, and the interaction of subsystems which create malfunctions. 3. Comprehensive knowledge of testing and troubleshooting techniques and procedures utilizing a variety of test devices and ability to analyze, modify, and repair complex electrical or environmental systems and components on assigned aircraft. Comprehensive knowledge of operation, capabilities and limitations of complex electronic systems complicated by a variety of multi component assemblies and devices. Ability to use a variety of electronic, electrical, or electromechanical test and measurement equipment 4. Skill in calibrating and adjusting components such as amplifiers, proximity boxes, generators, and voltage regulators. 5. Ability to read and interpret a variety of technical data such as schematic diagrams, blueprints and technical orders relating to the electronics trade. Ability to interpret and comply with regulations and instructions on security, safety, documentation, and other publications governing the performance of duties. Ability to effectively communicate with workers and supervisors in English using both oral and written reports. Ability to clean work area and/or job site upon completion of work. 6. Basic computer skills are required. Individual must be able to access and use computer based maintenance documentation and supply systems, and be capable of assimilating training on new systems as they are developed and implemented. OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS: 1. Other significant facts pertaining to this position are: Performs shift work with uncommon tours of duty. May be required to fly in military or contract aircraft for TDY maintenance or training, in accordance with the JTRs. May be required to support other units in performing maintenance. 2. This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. The incumbent is required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. Work schedule will be aligned to allow incumbent to fully participate in unit training assemblies (UTA). The incumbent's regular assignments are ART duties; however, the incumbent may be assigned some non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities. FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Heavy lifting (up to 40 lbs). Two man lift for items exceeding 40 lbs. Heavy carrying (40 lbs). Reaching above the shoulder. Use of fingers. Both hands required. Hours of walking are approximately 4 hours/day. Hours of standing are approximately 4 hours/day. Hours of repeated bending are approximately 4 hours/week. Climbing, use of legs and arms. Both legs required. Operation of special purpose and/or motor vehicles. Near vision correctable at 13 inches to 16 inches to Jaeger 1 to 4. Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and 20/40 in the other. Depth perception. Ability to distinguish basic colors. Ability to distinguish shades of color. ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Work is performed in hangar areas, outdoors, in/on aircraft, and sometimes in hazardous noise areas. Exposed to extremes in heat, cold, humidity and inclement weather. Must work in confined areas and in awkward positions. Exposed to bodily fluids, dirt, grease, and aircraft fluids (oil, hydraulic, fuel, sealants, solvents, and hazardous fluids and gases). Potentially exposed to Hydrazine, Halon, and/or composites, electrical shocks, RF radiation, and Low Observable (LO). Subject to eye damage due to exposure to LASERs. Subject to cuts, bruises, muscle strain, and injury from falls off scaffolds, ladders, and aircraft surfaces. Slippery or uneven walking surfaces. Working around machinery with moving parts. Working around moving objects or vehicles. May be exposed to intake suction and hot exhaust blast. Working closely with others. Working alone. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
