This position is located in Vicksburg National Military Park, in the Visitor Experience and Outreach Team. This is a Career-Seasonal appointment. Duties

Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will work from approximately March - January, and you will be in a non-pay status for the remainder of the year. Major Duties: The incumbent of this position will work at Vicksburg National Military Park on park-wide volunteer programs working closely with the Program Manager-Visitor Experience and Outreach. The incumbent provides service to and collaborates with all park teams. Plans, develops, implements, and evaluates the park-wide volunteer program including the assessment of needs, recruitment, training, placement, monitoring, safety, overall program evaluation and parkwide recognition. Serves as the primary contact and liaison for potential and current volunteers and volunteer groups and responsible for developing and maintaining new volunteer partnerships in support of the parks. Plans, develops, and organizes special volunteer project activities/events and coordinates logistical and administrative elements associated with such projects/events. Coordinates large scale volunteer activities such as quarterly parkwide volunteer days. Works with park staff to identify and plan new volunteer opportunities and initiatives. Responsible for monitoring, tracking and reporting on volunteer hours and volunteer program budget. Area Information: Vicksburg National Military Park: The Military Park protects close to 2,000 acres in and around the city of Vicksburg, MS that helps tell the story of the Siege of Vicksburg from May 18th to July 4, 1863. Both Union and Confederate governments saw extreme importance in Vicksburg and its role in protecting the Mississippi River. Victory here gave the Union Army control of the Mississippi River. The Military Park includes 1,325 historic monuments and markers, making it one of the largest collections of outdoor art in the world. Over half a million visitors visit the Military Park every year. Vicksburg is a vibrant community, with over 46,000 people living in the city and surrounding area. The immediate area offers plenty of amenities including restaurants, grocery stores, doctors, hospital, daycare, and a robust housing market. The closest airport is located in Jackson, MS, approximately 40 minutes drive east. Larger cities of New Orleans and Memphis are approximately 3 hours away. Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-01/09/2025-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: provide day-to-day oversight for a volunteer or youth work program, work with outdoor volunteer/youth projects; recruit volunteers/youth for park projects; work with others to implement special projects for volunteers; and provide support that contributes to the overall success of volunteer/youth achieving specific goals. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least 1 full year of graduate level education. You must include transcripts. -OR- Superior Academic Achievement: Superior academic achievement (SAA) requirements are based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average, or (3) honor society membership. 1. Class standing -- Applicants must be in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed courses. 2. Grade-point average (G.P.A.)-- Applicants must have a grade-point average of: a.) 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B" or better) as recorded on their official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or b.) 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B+" or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum. 3. Election to membership in a national scholastic honor society -- Applicants can be considered eligible based on membership in one of the national scholastic honor societies. These honor societies are listed by the Association of College Honor Societies, ACHS Home. Transcripts must be provided. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. To combine education and experience, first take the number of months of full-time experience completed and divide by 12; multiply the resulting decimal by 100. Then take the number of graduate level credits completed and divide by 18; multiply the resulting decimal by 100. Add the percentages together. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must include transcripts. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
