Duties
If selected for this position, you will join a litigation support team that is responsible for providing a wide range of automated litigation and legal support services to Assistant United States Attorneys involved in criminal prosecutions. Legal support services include assistance with case management and case presentation as well as automated case litigation and management programs. This position is assign to the Grand Jury Desk. Duties include:
Providing assistance to litigation teams on legal automation requirements.
Assist in creating and coordinating e-Discovery and litigation support services.
Help design and create litigation support databases utilizing various software products.
Help prepare photo boards, maps, charts and other demonstrative exhibits required for litigation.
Edit audio and video files for production and presentation.
Assist in preparing training materials for litigation technology applications.
Researches, analyzes, and summarizes relevant legal precedents for applicability to assigned cases.
Analyzes records to isolate facts pertinent to distinct legal issues.
Supports the investigative or trial team in its interviews of agents and potential witnesses to assist the AUSA in preparation for grand jury or trial.
Organizes, reviews, summarizes and outlines grand jury and/or trial testimony to assist to AUSA in preparation for grand jury or trial.
Provides advice to attorney and other legal support staff on the most effective and efficient ways to prepare, present and maintain a variety of administrative legal documents.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
Requirements
- You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
- Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
- You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
- If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
- Time-in-Grade: Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement.
- You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement and before placement in the position.
Qualifications
GS-09: To be eligible at the GS 9 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions:Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level. Specialized experience is defined as assisting attorneys and legal support personnel with court rules, regulations and procedures, analyzing and evaluating legal decisions and case files to identify relevant issues and potential evidence; recommending automated support methods for trials; customizing databases and programs for user needs; assisting with trial preparation and presentations, and assisting attorneys with automatic evidence presentation in court; preparing motions, orders, pleadings, subpoenas and legal briefs, summaries of analyses and decisions, and pre-trial documents.
Education: One of the following types of education in a related field (e.g., Information Science, Criminal Justice, Law): a Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree (such as an LL.B. or J.D.); OR two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree.
Combining Education and Experience: Combination of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet the total qualifications. In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of one full year..
