You will serve as a INDUSTRIAL HYGIENIST in the INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE PROGRAM OFFICE (IHPO) of NMRTC SAN DIEGO CA. This announcement uses the Expansion of Direct Hire Authority Personnel of the Department of Defense to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service.

Duties

You will serve as a team leader for those activities requiring expertise in highly complex and sensitive surveys in high hazard workplaces You will perform all phases of the industrial hygiene program as specified by Department of Defense (DoD) You will interpret policy on own initiative in terms of established objectives You will evaluate new work processes and materials used at the activity for which information on hazards is lacking You will engage in an extensive literature search in order to evaluate survey findings You will develop and provide guidelines to workplace monitors so that they may perform their work correctly

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

Qualifications

FOR GS-12 your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Evaluating industrial sites, research laboratories, and work processes to identify occupational health hazards Devising control measures, including ventilation, material substitution, education, personal protective devices, to minimize health hazards Using industrial hygiene sampling techniques and instrumentation Utilizing Microsoft Office software programs and applications, and various databases Writing technical reports. FOR GS-11 your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-9 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Evaluating industrial sites, research laboratories, and work processes to identify occupational health hazards Devising control measures, including ventilation, material substitution, education, personal protective devices, to minimize health hazards Using industrial hygiene sampling techniques and instrumentation Utilizing Microsoft Office software programs and applications, and various databases Writing technical reports. Education

Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess.
  • A bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science; or
  • A bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene; or
  • Certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene(external link) (ABIH).

  • 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree
