The primary purpose of this position, ELECTRONICS MECHANIC, WG-2604-11, is to install, modify, overhaul, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair complete missile/special weapons electronics operational system(s) consisting of numerous complex integral components which require knowledge of a wide range of electronics principles and practices.

Duties

Install, modify, overhaul, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair a complete missile/special weapons operating system consisting of numerous complex integral components. Set up and operate software controlled automatic test equipment (ATE) to test and troubleshoot complex electronics components and systems. Use and maintain hand tools such as screwdrivers, drills, wrenches, soldering irons, and micro-soldering units. Utilize safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean work environment.

  • This is a Mission-Essential position performing a Mission-Critical-Function which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions.
  • PHYSICAL: THIS POSITION REQUIRES A PRE-EMPLOYMENT PHYSICAL.
  • This is a Testing Designated Position. Employee must pass initial and periodic short-notice drug testing. Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.
  • May be required to work rotating shifts or uncommon tours of duty. Subject to call back to meet emergency situations.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.
  • Incumbent must meet the requirements of the Personnel Reliability Program (PRP) as outlined in AFR 35-99 and AFR 40-925 permitting work on or in close proximity to critical components and/or nuclear devices.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-2600 Electronic Equipment Installation and Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Use of Test Equipment: Electronics Theory of Electronics Ability To Use Hand and Power Tools -Electronics Trouble shooting (Electronic Equipment) Ingenuity (Ability To Suggest and Apply New Methods) PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Frequently lifts and carries, unassisted, items weighing up to 25 pounds. Sometimes required to lift and carry items weighing more than 25 pounds with the help of weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. The work requires frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching, and stooping. Climbing and working in high places may be required. Some work may require the aid of magnifying lenses, eye loops, and microscopes to accomplish repairs on miniature components. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Employee typically works in well-lighted, heated, and ventilated areas. Work is sometimes in high and restricted places, under conditions of heat and cold outside in inclement weather. Work may be conducted with, or in areas with, explosive components and/or material. Exposed to the possibility of electric shock, burns from electrical or RF energy or hot solder, hazards from pressurized systems (gasses and hydraulics), exposure to x-rays or other energy emitted by non-destructive inspection techniques, and cuts and bruises.
