Duties
As a/an Biologist, you will perform the following duties:
Modify standard study methods and requirements, practices, or techniques or existing guide to address current and evolving problems or issues.
Evaluate problems and situations involving a wide variety of circumstances or unusual conditions for activities carried out in the scientific area.
Periodically evaluate progress of the experiment to determine whether data generated are accurate and valid.
Compare results with those obtained in previous experiments and/or identifies unusual or unexpected results and their probable causes.
Qualifications
All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement.
Time in grade (TIG) must be met within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
Basic Qualifications:
Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Minimum Qualifications: To qualify at the GS-12 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level, which must include the following experience conducting biological experiments, modifying study methods, and managing data collection and analysis; operating and calibrating laboratory instruments, ensuring proper handling of biological materials; prepare detailed scientific reports.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
Copy of your transcripts or equivalent documentation is required for positions with an education requirement, or if you are qualifying based on education or a combination of education and experience. An official transcript will be required if you are selected.
College or university degree generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. For a list of schools which meet these criteria, please refer to
