Duties

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is looking for temporary employees to work as Materials Handlers in Idaho. A Materials Handler (WG-05) issues fire equipment and fire supplies to personnel, utilizing predetermined guidelines and provides tracking, inventory, and receipt of property. Maintains stock, issues to firefighters, and maintains records showing inventories of all fire warehoused supplies and tools. Operates forklift in loading, unloading and moving stock. Qualifications

The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualifications System for Trades and Labor Occupations will be used in determining your qualifications. There is no specific length of training or experience required; however, you must be able to demonstrate through experience shown in your resume. Screen-out Element: Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision. This must be verifiable on your application. To qualify for a WG-05: Experience in the operation of a wildland fire cache or warehouse in order to procure, issue, control, store and judge the physical condition of a wide variety of fire suppression and fire safety items within the wildland fire community as a warehouse worker. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates. You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement. Physical Effort: Incumbent's work requires standing, stooping, bending, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts and carries supplies, materials, and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds on a recurring basis. The heavier items are moved with weight-handling equipment or assistance from other workers. Work is generally performed on a concrete or a hard surface floor. Working Conditions: Incumbent's work may occur in areas inside and outside that are hot, cold, damp, drafty, or poorly lighted. Materials handlers are frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, and falls, and injury form falling stock and mechanized work areas. The work is dirty, dusty, and greasy. Incumbent will adhere to all safety rules and regulations as prescribed in manuals/supplements or by the designated Safety Officer. Involves frequent driving and deliveries on paved and unimproved roads.
