Duties

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is looking for temporary employees to work as Materials Handlers in Elko, NV. A Materials Handler (WG-05) is responsible for day-to-day operation of the fire warehouse to include ordering, receiving, maintain and shipping of equipment and supplies. Documents records of inventory. Operates computers to manage stock levels, track shipments, and identify minimum restock levels. May deliver supplies to fire stations or to emergency incidents. Qualifications

The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualifications System for Trades and Labor Occupations will be used in determining your qualifications. There is no specific length of training or experience required; however, you must be able to demonstrate through experience shown in your resume. Screen-out Element: Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision. This must be verifiable on your application. To qualify for a WG-05, you must have experience in the operation of a wildland fire cache or warehouse in order to procure, issue, control, store and judge the physical condition of a wide variety of fire suppression and fire safety items within the wildland fire community as a warehouse worker. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates. You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement. Physical Demands: Incumbent's work requires standing, stooping, bending and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. May be required to work at a rapid pace for long periods of time. During periods of high fire activity, incumbent may be required to work for periods of time up to 21 days without days off. Frequently lifts and carries supplies, equipment and printed materials that may weigh 60-70 pounds. Occasionally required to assist in moving office furniture and equipment. Work is generally performed in concrete or a hard surface floor. Work Environment: Incumbent works in both inside and outside areas. Warehousing is done in areas that are hot, cold, dry, wet, drafty, and poorly lighted. The work is dirty, dusty, and greasy. Incumbent is exposed to the possibility of cuts, bruises, and the safety hazards inherent of warehousing.
