This position is located in the ARS, Midwest Area, Soil Drainage Research Unit in Columbus, OH.
In this position, you will provide support to the Research Leader and State Conservationist on water quality and conservation management in Ohio.
This is a term, time-limited appointment with an initial duration no less than 13 months and can be extended up to a total of 10 years.
Duties
Reviews, synthesizes, and coordinates current data and research to characterize successes, challenges, and opportunities encountered in the watershed.
Prepares special reports, professional publications, and technical papers for general audiences and special analyses and position papers for use by senior government officials.
Works with Research Leader in assessing the applicability of scientific research.
Provides analysis of existing and emerging issues pertaining to water quality and quantity under varying climates, utilizing in-field monitoring techniques, National Resources Inventory, Conservation Effects Assessment Project.
Reviews, synthesizes, and coordinates current data and research to characterize successes, challenges, and opportunities encountered in the watershed.
Requirements

Qualifications
Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.
Basic Requirements
A. Degree: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
B. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
AND
In addition to the basic education requirement above, all applicants must meet the following minimum qualification requirements:
GS-12
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-12 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-11 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience initiating and integrating existing and emerging trends and issues pertaining to agriculture, nutrient management, or conservation; analyzing and recommending changes to policies related to agricultural management or conservation programs; and analyzing the impacts of natural resources on how to improve their conditions.
GS-13
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-13 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-12 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience identifying and assessing existing and emerging trends and issues pertaining to agriculture, nutrient management, or conservation; analyzing and recommending changes to policies related to nutrient management or conservation programs; and analyzing the impacts of natural resources on how to improve their conditions.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
