Job opening: AUTOMOTIVE WORKER (SERVICE WRITER)

You will serve as a AUTOMOTIVE WORKER (SERVICE WRITER) in the Transportation Department (CODE 700) of NAVFAC SOUTHWEST.

Duties

You will ensure motor vehicles are being repaired and maintained properly. You will determine if repairs can be completed in-house or send out to a contractor. You will test automotive products to make final adjustments and verify operation prior to returning to full service. You will coordinate with the contractor and contracts department to ensure contracted work is performed satisfactorily.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • Must supply own hand tools sufficient to perform assigned tasks.
  • Must possess a valid Class "C" license. May be required to possess and Optional Form 346 (OF 346) with forklift endorsement to operate forklifts rated up to 15,000 pounds.
  • Must follow current safety and environmental regulations and standard operating procedures.
  • May be required to work rotational shifts at different sites; may be called back to work or put in emergency overtime; and may be required to work weekends and holidays.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Performing emission tests and certifications as per federal and state regulations; 2) Maintaining ignitions, transmissions, brakes, filters, clutch assemblies, radiators, carburetors, and drive trains.
