These positions are located in the Southwestern Region. One on the Gila NF, Silver City NM and one on the Prescott NF, in Prescott AZ.
Positions are responsible for providing support in the Range, Weeds, and Monitoring program areas along with planning, managing, coordinating, reviewing, and reporting for several other program areas in natural resources.

Duties
Support managers in range, weeds, and monitoring programs by project planning, budgeting for workforce and organizational needs, and aligning the programs with unit priorities.
Oversee development of operating guidelines/processes within several resource areas or team operations such as resource inventories, monitoring, noxious and invasive weed treatments, and biological surveys.
Provide technical advice to management on difficult problems arising from range activities including use of grazing systems, pesticide use/management, monitoring, range re-vegetation, range improvements, and ecological plant communities.
Project costs of range, weeds, and monitoring programs based on project complexity, staff skills/needs, equipment, supplies, and training
Work with livestock organizations and federal/state/local officials in the establishment of range, weeds, and monitoring program objectives, ensuring compatibility with other natural resource and development plans
Provide advice to leadership on the effect of proposed natural resource policies, plans and programs related to range, weeds, and monitoring programs.
Facilitate resource specialists’ understanding of ecosystem management principles when planning project work related to range, weeds, and monitoring programs
Perform supervisory responsibilities 20% of the time.
Requirements

Basic Requirement:
GS-0401:
Degree: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a major field of study that included 24 semester hours in course work in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. Related course work generally refers to courses that may be accepted as part of the program major.
OR
Combination of education and experience that included 24 semester hours in course work in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position, AND experience sufficient to demonstrate that I possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform work in the occupation that is comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of a full 4-year course of study with a major in the appropriate field needed to perform the work of the occupation.

Specialized Experience Requirement:
For the GS-12: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as two or more of the following: Developing an ecosystem-based rangeland management program using resource management plans, objectives, and decisions, as necessary to implement actions to help achieve land management plans goals and objectives; and/or Inspecting grazing allotments for compliance to livestock grazing strategies and management practices that are part of the grazing permit; and/or Completing necessary action on rangeland use permit changes or modifications, and ensures compliance by permittees with rangeland uses.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
